A brain tumour kills more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, devastating families: yet, less than 1% of government funding is devoted to research into this form of cancer. In light of this, In Sue’s Name has three main aims:
- To raise funds for research into the treatment of brain tumours
- To increase public awareness about this terrible disease and the urgent need for well-funded, sustainable research
- To bring together families and friends who have lost a loved one to brain cancer, or those who are still supporting them.
Vital research is now being carried out into treatment for brain tumours at the Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence in the Blizard Institute, part of Queen Mary University of London in Whitechapel. This gives hope to us all, but research for brain tumours remains desperately underfunded. In Sue’s Name aims to raise £1 million over the next ten years towards this vital research.
Why Brain Cancer Research Needs More Funding

In Sue’s Name: Bridging the Funding Gap
In Sue’s Name was founded to address this disparity, honouring Sue Blasotta’s memory after she tragically passed away from brain tumours at 42, leaving behind young children.

- Fundraising for Research:
Our goal is to raise £1 million by 2027 to advance brain cancer treatments and cures, ensuring other families do not suffer as ours has. - Raising Awareness:
We strive to increase public awareness about brain cancer’s impact and the critical need for sustained research funding. Brain cancers devastate young families, leaving parents without children and children without parents.
Supporting Affected Families:
We provide a supportive community for families who have lost loved ones to brain cancer, fostering solidarity and understanding. This includes organising events like golf days and bike rides that help raise awareness and funding.
In partnership with Brain Tumour Research, the money we raise will sponsor days of research, recognised through commemorative tiles on the Wall of Hope at the Centre of Excellence.

Besides donations and collections, we will be organising a series of events to raise funds, including barbecues, bike rides, garden parties, runs and concerts. To date, we have already held three highly successful golf days, for which many companies generously supplied prizes, and have raised over £40k.
These events help to raise awareness of the charity and, even more importantly, the extent of a deadly disease that doesn’t get the coverage it needs. Each fundraising event is an opportunity to get the message out to more people – that brain cancer devastates families and that more must be done to fund it.
The third aim is at the very heart of the charity’s existence – to bring together families affected by this disease. Whether bereaved families and friends become part of our team, or just come along to one of our events, they’ll be among people who are on their side and who understand what they’re going through.

The charity organisation, known as Brain Tumour Research, has a clear vision and mission to construct a network of experts into sustainable research into brain tumours.

Brain Tumour Research is here to try and raise funds for seven dedicated research centres into brain tumours, whilst challenging the government and larger cancer charities to invest more in brain tumour research.
They are focused on finding a cure for brain tumours and are driven to accomplish their ambitious goals by driving engagement and building compelling campaigns.
In doing this, they hope to reach their lobbying milestones and achieve some breakthroughs in their research programmes.
They are the only national charity dedicated to sustainable research into brain tumours, continually demanding better outcomes for patients and their families.
They are passionately committed to raising both awareness and funding for research. They wish to embrace the experiences of volunteers, supporters, member charities, like In Sue’s Name, their research centres and corporate partners.
